CRT operates a flourishing Diagnostic and Research Tools business that commercialises research tools such as antibodies, cell lines, transgenics and knockout mice, created in the course of academic research programmes. CRT sells or licenses such materials to other research scientists through specialist life science reagents companies.

A number of benefits are realised through this activity:

• Stimulation of world-wide biomedical research by making research tools widely available
• Reduction in the number of direct requests for material from originating laboratories
• Generation of a revenue stream for the scientist, charity and/or host institute
