| Relevance: | Connexins are a large family of proteins which form gap junctions. Gap junctions are cell membrane structures that facilitate direct cell-cell communication. Gap junction communication has been implicated in the patterning and development of vertebrate embryos. Individual connexins show complex spatial and temporal variation in expression patterns. This variation contributes to the control of intercellular signalling. |
