| Relevance: | Integrins are heterodimeric cell surface receptors composed of a and ß subunits, which mediate cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix attachments. Aberrant integrin expression has been found in many epithelial tumours. Changes in integrin expression have been shown to be important for the growth and early metastatic capacity of melanoma cells. Integrin a3 is found on most cell types. Integrin a3 associates with b1 integrin to form integrin a3b1, which is one of the most abundant keratinocyte integrins and binds laminin 5. IA3 is useful for studies on inhibition of cell-cell adhesion and cell-substrate adhesion. |
