| Relevance: | Plasminogen is converted to the active serine protease plasmin by proteolytic cleavage by urokinase-type (uPA) and tissue-type (tPA) plasminogen activators. Plasmin is a key enzyme in the fibrinolytic pathway (lysis of the unwanted blood clots). Plasminogen related growth factors are potent effectors of growth, movement and differentiation of epithlia and endothelia. The receptor tyrosine kinsase for HGF/SF is the product of the proto-oncogene c-met. |
