| Relevance: | The anti estrogen receptor (RE) antibody ACD5 (also known as D5) is capable of precipitating labelled human cytosolic RE complexes from breast tumour, fibroid, myometrial and endometrial preparations, but does not react with nuclear RE from human endometrium or cytoplasmic RE from other species tested. The antibody does not react with progesterone receptor or androgen receptor from human breast tissue, sex steroid binding globulin (SHBG) from human plasma, or rat alpha fetoprotein. The antibody is associated with a 29KDa component in RE-positive cytosols, in addition the antigen is a non hormone binding component related to cytosolic RE from breast tumour and myometrium. |

| Notes: | Since publication of the Coffer et al. 1985 paper, work has been performed to elucidate the nature of the 29KDa protein. It is an abundant protein that had previously been discussed under three different names, p29, p24 and srp27, but it is known that they are one and the same protein and now called Heat Shock Protein 27, HSP27. |
